Magic video is owned and operated by film maker Nikki Wood. Nikki is able to film and edit the videos herself giving her clients great professional looking web videos and DVD’s at very reasonabale rates. For multi – camera shoots and more complex productions Magic Video subcontracts a range of freelance camera operators and sound people. Magic Video is well equipped with High Definition cameras, professional radio microphones, a lighting kit, and digital editing suite.
Background
Nikki began making short films and videos in 1986 . She made the transition from working as a science technician at the Institute of Nuclear Sciences division of the DSIR to film – maker after graduating at Wellington Polytechnic in Photography and Film making. After a two years of working at Auckland Institute of Technology ( AUT) as a video technician Nikki moved on to working as a freelance as a video producer specializing in making programs for health therapists, businesses and community groups.
Her first major project was a 35 minute educational documentary on home birth made for the Home Birth Association. In 2012/13 Nikki produced a 40 minute documentary style video records the public celebration of Auckland Councils Peace City Declaration in Aotea Square 8/9th June 2012. This video features a selection of peace leaders, musicians and groups working for abolition of nuclear weapons and peace in the community.
After the completion of the Home Birth Video Nikki went on to make many educational videos as well a documenting numerous events. Between 1999 and 2002 Nikki took time out to study Counseling, bodywork and nutrition.
Nikki has also worked as a science technician, audio visual technician, stills photographer, hand drumming teacher, video production teacher, musician and bodywork therapist. She draws from these experiences to help her in directing crew and in interfacing with the sound and music crew.
